Brian Burton, BA, MPH
Director of Health Interventions

Brian Burton is the Director of Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center, a non-profit health foundation with offices in Lake Charles & Lafayette, LA. He has been employed by AHEC since 2004 and has held the position of Director since 2006.

Mr. Burton serves as the Principal Investigator on a number of public health projects with a strong emphasis on sexual, reproductive, and adolescent health. Since August of 2013 he has focused most of his time as Director of the Navigator for a Healthy Louisiana Project where he oversees Navigators and other Affordable Care Act assisters across state. In addition, he also serves as the Chairman of the LA Enrollment Partnership – a statewide collaborative of ACA assisters, entities, and champions across the state as well as overseeing several regional and local ACA coalitions.

Mr. Burton was born and raised in Louisiana. He has a double Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Law & Sociology from Tulane University in New Orleans as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the USC. In addition to his work in public health, he also has a strong focus on disaster services where he serves as the Chairman of the Board of the American Red Cross for Louisiana’s Gulf region and financial services where he serves as Chairman of the Board for Access of Louisiana Federal Credit Union. Mr. Burton sits in a number of additional Boards including LA Latino Health Coalition, LA Highway Safety Commission, LA Reproductive Health Board, LA League of Women Voters Health Equity Advisory Board, and the LA Legislative Healthcare Delivery Advisory Board.
